Herbert Hoover, 31th president, 1929-1933, and
wife, Lou Henry. Mr. Hoover, president during a
recession, advocated, cutting unemployment and
welfare payments, cutting the top tax rate from
73% to 24% and initiating a balanced budget
resolution, leading to The Great Depression.
Sound familiar. Lou died of a heart attack in 1944
in New York City and was temporarily buried at
Palo Alto, California. Herbert passed in 1964 at the
age of 90 of internal bleeding. They now resided
at West Branch, Iowa.
