Civil War Major, William McKinley, 25th president,
1897-1901, and wife, Ida Saxton. William was
assassinated by a disillusioned and mentally
unstable political supporter in 1901. Using a .32 caliber
pistol, the first bullet grazed his shoulder, the second,
went through his stomach, liver and kidney. He died of
gangrene. Ida died 6 yrs. later of a brain cancer. Both
are interred in The McKinley Memorial in Canton, Ohio.
